Pickleball has been not so quietly taking over the UK. What started as a sport most people had never heard of now has over 55,000 active players in this country alone, with that number growing every year.
Glasgow has been part of that growth, but until recently, your options for playing were limited to shared badminton halls and council leisure centres with temporary nets.

The Court changed that. We have two dedicated, professional-standard pickleball courts inside our 33,000 sq ft space on Glasgow’s south side, alongside a restaurant and bar, a Pilates studio, and a proper club atmosphere that makes the whole thing feel like more than just booking a court.
If you’ve been looking for a pickleball club in Glasgow that actually takes the sport seriously, you’ve found it.
What is pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport that mixes elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It’s played on a court the same size as a badminton court (about 13m by 6m), with a low net, solid paddles, and a lightweight plastic ball with holes in it.
You can play singles or doubles, though doubles is more common and, honestly, more fun.

The rules are simple enough to learn in five minutes. You serve underarm into the diagonal service box, the ball has to bounce once on each side before anyone can volley (that’s the double bounce rule), and there’s a zone near the net called the kitchen where you can’t hit the ball out of the air.
Games are played to 11 points, you can only score on your serve, and you need to win by two. That’s pretty much it, and the rest you pick up as you go.
The thing that hooks people is how quickly you go from learning the rules to having proper rallies. Because the court is small and the ball moves slower than a tennis ball, you don’t need months of practice before you can actually play.
Within a couple of games, you’ll be placing shots and working out how to move your opponents around. It rewards touch and placement over power, which is why it suits such a wide range of ages and fitness levels.
Purpose-Built Pickleball Courts in Glasgow
We have 2 indoor pickleball courts at The Court, both built to professional standard. They’re purpose-built with proper line markings, permanent nets, and the right surface underfoot.
That might not sound like a big deal until you’ve played on a badminton court with taped-down lines and a portable net that sags in the middle. Dedicated courts make a genuine difference to how the game plays and feels.

Because we’re fully indoors, weather is never a factor. Our courts are open from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 9pm on Sundays, so there’s room to fit a game around whatever your week looks like.
And because we’re a dedicated racket sports club rather than a multi-purpose leisure centre, you won’t be competing for court time with yoga classes or five-a-side bookings.
Pickleball for beginners
If you’ve never played before, pickleball is one of the most beginner-friendly sports going. Because you serve underarm, there’s no overhead technique to learn before you can get a rally going. You’re playing on a court roughly the same size as a badminton court too, so there’s no sprinting into distant corners, and the two-bounce rule at the start of each point slows things down just enough to give you time to react before the volleying starts.

You don’t need to bring your own equipment. We provide paddles and balls at the club, so all you need is sports clothes and a pair of clean trainers. There’s no membership requirement to book a court either. Just head to Playtomic, pick a time slot, and turn up.
Most people who try pickleball for the first time are surprised by how quickly they get into it. The rallies come fast, the scoring makes sense after the first couple of games, and the kitchen rule adds a layer of tactics that keeps things interesting even when you’re still learning. It’s one of those sports where you can have a genuinely good time on your very first session without needing months of practice to get there.
Pickleball Vs Badminton and Tennis
If you’ve played badminton, pickleball will feel familiar. The court is the same size and the movement patterns are similar, but the ball behaves very differently. It doesn’t fly the way a shuttlecock does, so the game is more about placement and touch than overhead smashes.
Rallies tend to last longer too, and the kitchen rule forces you to play strategically near the net rather than just hitting everything as hard as you can.
Coming from tennis, the biggest difference is the paddle. There are no strings, no sweet spot to worry about, and no hours of technique practice before you can keep a rally going.
The court is also much smaller, so you’re not covering anywhere near the same ground, which makes pickleball much kinder on the body. A lot of tennis players who’ve picked up injuries or just find the sport too demanding on their joints have switched to pickleball and love it.
Pickleball Coaching at The Court Glasgow
Our coaches run sessions for all levels, from new players who’ve never held a paddle to more experienced members looking to improve their game. Beginner sessions cover the serve, the two-bounce rule, basic shot types (the drive, the dink, and the lob), and how to use the kitchen to your advantage.

Private lessons are available too if you’d rather work on specific skills one-to-one. It’s the fastest way to go from “I’ve heard of pickleball” to actually being able to hold your own in a match.
We also run social sessions where you can turn up without a group and get matched with other players. These are a great way to meet people, try the sport, and get regular games in your diary without needing to round up four friends every time.
Pickleball has always been a social sport, and the community at The Court reflects that. People stick around for a drink in the bar, swap tips, and book in for the following week. A lot of the regulars started out knowing nobody at the club, and now they organise mid-week games through the WhatsApp group. It’s easy to join in once you’ve played a couple of times.
More Than Just a Pickleball Court
The Court isn’t a leisure centre. It’s a club built around racket sports, with a restaurant and bar on site where you can eat and drink before or after you play.
That combination changes the feel of the whole experience. An hour of pickleball turns into an evening out, which is something none of the council venues or shared sports halls in Glasgow life can offer.
There’s also a Pilates studio, 4 padel courts if you want to try a different racket sport, and a pro shop where you can pick up your own paddle. Unlike most sports clubs in Glasgow, the whole venue was designed around racket sports, and you can feel that in the atmosphere.
If you’re after the kind of club where people actually know each other and look forward to coming back, that’s what we’ve built here.
Pickleball Memberships and Pay-and-Play
Anyone can book a pickleball court without being a member. Court hire ranges from £28 to £40 per hour depending on the time slot, and that covers the court for up to four players. Split between a group, it’s less than a tenner each for an hour of sport in a proper venue with a bar attached.
For regular players, our Play membership at £40 per month gives you 25% off every court booking, 10-day advance booking, and access to member events. The Unlimited membership at £120 per month includes unlimited court access, 14-day priority booking, and 10% off food and drink.

Pickleball at The Court FAQ
Do I need my own paddle?
No. We have paddles and balls available to use at the club. If you play regularly and want your own, the pro shop can help you choose one.
What’s the kitchen in pickleball?
The kitchen is the area within seven feet of the net on both sides. You can stand in it, but you can’t hit the ball out of the air (volley) while you’re there. You have to let the ball bounce first. It’s the rule that gives pickleball its tactical depth and stops people just standing at the net smashing everything.
Is pickleball good exercise?
Absolutely! It’s lower impact than tennis or running, which makes it easier on the knees and hips, but the constant lateral movement and quick reactions give you a solid workout without feeling like you’re grinding through a gym session.
Can I play on my own?
You can play pickleball singles, but most pickleball is played as doubles. If you don’t have a group, our social sessions match you with other players at the club. It’s one of the easiest ways to get started.
