Pickleball has been making quite the buzz across the United Kingdom. What started as a sport that very few people had ever come across now boasts over 55,000 active enthusiasts throughout this country, and that figure continues to grow with each passing year.
Scotland has had its part in that extraordinary growth, yet until just recently, your options for playing were restricted to shared badminton halls and council leisure centres equipped with just temporary nets.
We built something different with The Court. Our 33,000 sq ft facility on Glasgow’s south side accommodates two dedicated, professional standard pickleball courts, accompanied by a restaurant and bar, a Pilates studio, and a authentic club feel that lifts the experience way beyond simply reserving a court.
If you have been seeking for a pickleball club close to Crookedholm that genuinely treats the sport with true passion, your search is finally over!
What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a racquet sport that blends aspects of tennis, badminton and table tennis into a single compelling game. Played on a court equivalent to a badminton court, roughly 13 metres by 6 metres, it features a low net, solid paddles and a lightweight plastic ball perforated.
Whilst single player play is entirely possible, doubles remains the far more favoured choice and, in truth, the more delightful format.
The basics are clear enough to understand within 5 minutes. You serve underarm into the diagonal service box, the ball must bounce once on each side before either player can volley (this is known as the double bounce rule), and there exists a zone positioned close to the net called the kitchen, where striking the ball out of the air is strictly forbidden.
Rounds are scored to 11 points, you can only get a point during your own serve, and winning requires a two point lead. That is pretty much all there is to it, and everything else you learn along the way!
genuinely
Within just a few games, you will find yourself making shots with certainty and learning how to move your opponents around the court. It rewards finesse and placement far more than power, which is exactly why it attracts such a wide range of ages and fitness levels.

Purpose-Built Pickleball Courts Near Crookedholm
We have 2 indoor pickleball courts at The Court, each constructed to a professional standard. Purpose-built and thoughtfully designed, they feature proper line markings, permanent nets and the right surface underfoot.
Playing on a badminton court with taped lines and a sagging portable net creates the difference immediately clear. Dedicated courts genuinely improve both how the game is played and how it feels.
Because the facility is completely indoors, weather conditions are never a concern. The courts are open from 8am until 11pm Monday to Saturday, and from 9am until 9pm on Sundays, providing lots of flexibility to fit a game around your week’s schedule.
Because we are a specialist racket sports club rather than a multi-purpose leisure centre, court time is never lost to yoga classes or five-a-side bookings.
Pickleball for Beginners in Crookedholm
If you have not played before, pickleball is among the most accessible sports ideal for beginners. The underarm serve eliminates any need to perfect overhead technique before rallies can begin. The court is roughly the same size as a badminton court, so dashing to distant corners is never required, and the two bounce rule at the start of each point decelerates play down just enough to give you time to react before the volleying gets underway.
You are not required to bring any kit of your own. Paddles and balls are provided at the club, meaning all you need to bring is suitable sports clothing and a pair of clean trainers. There is no membership requirement in order to book a court. Simply visit Playtomic, select your preferred time slot, and arrive ready to play.
Most first-time pickleball players are genuinely amazed by how rapidly they adapt. Rallies move quickly, scoring registers after the first few games, and the kitchen rule introduces a strategic layer that keeps things captivating even as you learn. It is one of those sports where you can have a fantastic time in your very first session without needing months of practice beforehand.

Pickleball Vs Badminton and Tennis
If you’ve played badminton before, pickleball is bound to be remarkably familiar! The court dimensions are identical and the movement patterns are quite similar, but the ball itself behaves in a completely different way. It simply doesn’t travel through the air like a shuttlecock does, so the game becomes far more about precise placement and delicate touch than powering overhead smashes.
Rallies also tend to go on for extended periods, and the kitchen rule promotes you to play with strategy close to the net rather than merely striking every stroke with peak force.
Originating from a tennis background, the most striking change is the paddle itself. Lacking strings or a sweet spot to consider, and with no the need for hours of technique practice, keeping a rally going feels remarkably more accessible from the very start.
The court itself is markedly more compact, meaning you are not required to cover anything like the same distance, which makes pickleball a much easier pursuit on the body. Many tennis players who have sustained injuries or simply found the physical demands too punishing on their joints have made the transition to pickleball and never looked back.
Pickleball Coaching at The Court
Our coaches deliver classes catered to every ability, from complete newcomers who have never used a paddle to experienced players keen to hone their techniques! Beginner sessions tackle the serve, the two-bounce rule, fundamental shot types including the drive, the dink, and the lob, and how to make the most of the kitchen to your advantage.
One-on-one lessons are also available for those who would prefer to focus on particular skills in a one-on-one setting. It remains the quickest route to take someone from simply having heard of pickleball to genuinely holding their own out on the court.
We also run open social sessions where you are encouraged to arrive solo and be paired with fellow participants. These offer a great opportunity to meet new people, explore the sport, and establish consistent games in your schedule without the need to coordinate a group of four every time.
Pickleball has consistently been a game built around connection, and the circle at The Court is a great reflection of that ethos. People tend to linger over a beverage at the bar, share a couple of tips with one another, and get their next session booked before they leave. Many of the regulars walked through the door not knowing a single soul, and now they are the ones arranging midweek games through the WhatsApp group. After a handful of sessions, finding your place in it all feels completely natural.
More Than Just a Pickleball Court
The Court is not a leisure centre by any measure. It is a club shaped entirely around racket sports, complete with a restaurant and bar where members can dine and drink before or after stepping onto the court.
That combination alters the entire atmosphere of the gathering! An hour of pickleball turns into a proper night out, and that is something absolutely no council venue or shared sports hall across Glasgow life can provide.
There is even a Pilates studio on site, 4 padel courts for anyone keen to explore a fantastic racket sport, and a pro shop where you can grab your very own paddle! Unlike the majority of sports clubs in Glasgow, this entire venue was built with racket sports at its heart, and you can absolutely feel that energy the moment you arrive.
If you want a club where members really are familiar with one another and eagerly anticipate returning, that’s exactly what we’ve built here.

Pickleball Memberships and Pay-and-Play

Pickleball at The Court FAQ
Do I need my own paddle?
We have paddles and balls available for use at the club. Should you participate on a consistent basis and wish to buy your own equipment, the pro shop team will be happy to assist you through the selection process.
What’s the kitchen in pickleball?
The kitchen is the area extending seven feet behind from the net on either side of the court. You are allowed to stand within it, yet volleying the ball directly out of the air whilst positioned there is strictly forbidden. The ball must first complete its bounce before you can strike it. This is the only rule that lends pickleball its remarkable tactical complexity and prevents players from simply planting themselves at the net and aggressively smashing every shot that comes their way.
Is pickleball good exercise?
It is significantly lower impact than tennis or running, which naturally reduces the strain on the knees and hips, yet the continuous lateral movement and rapid reactions still deliver a thoroughly solid workout without ever feeling like an tiresome slog through a conventional gym session.
Can I play on my own?
Want to discover the best part? Whilst pickleball can absolutely be played as a singles game, the doubles format is where most of the action happens! No group? No problem! Our social sessions are excellent for pairing you up with fellow players at the club, making it one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to dive right in!
