Padel Thornliebank

Based in Thornliebank and want to play padel? The Court is the best club for you!

Four panoramic indoor courts. A restaurant and bar. A genuine club atmosphere. The Court is Glasgow’s dedicated padel club, and it’s built to be far beyond just booking a court for an hour.

If you haven’t played padel yet, you’re in good company. Most of the players who visit haven’t touched one. If you already know the sport and you’re after better courts and a real club to call home, come and check out what we’ve built.

Underhand Padel Tennis Serve

What is Padel?

Padel is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, and it’s played on an enclosed court that’s about three-quarters the size of a regular tennis court.

The court is bordered by glass walls and metal fencing, and the ball can bounce off those walls mid-rally, which produces angles and shots you’d never get in tennis.

You serve underarm, you always play doubles, and the matches are rapid but dead simple to follow. Best of tennis and squash in a single sport? That’s a spot-on summary.

The scoring matches tennis (15, 30, 40, game), with one main difference to be aware of: at deuce, padel uses a golden point rather than advantage. One rally. Game settled. It keeps matches moving and makes close games properly tense.

You play with a solid racket instead of a strung one, so you don’t need the technique that makes tennis so punishing for beginners.

Half an hour on court and most people have the basics covered. That brief learning curve is a huge reason padel is now one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, with over 35 million players in 150 countries according to the FIP World Padel Report 2025. Padel is the fastest-growing racket sport in the UK right now, and padel in Glasgow has been leading that growth in Scotland.

Professional Padel Courts Near Thornliebank

We’ve got four indoor panoramic padel courts based here at The Court, all housed inside our 33,000 sq ft space on Glasgow’s south side!

At 20m x 10m, the courts are full-sized with glass back walls and metal cage frames, built to the exact standards you’d expect at professional tournaments. We’re fully indoors, so whatever the weather, you can always be on court.

Living in Thornliebank, you appreciate the weather isn’t always on your side, so being able to play padel year-round at The Court makes a proper difference. The outdoor courts scattered around the city are decent when the weather’s on your side, but that’s always a gamble, and it’s one you really don’t need to take here.

We’re open from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 9pm on Sundays, so there’s bags of flexibility to fit a game around work and family. This space wasn’t a rush job; it was deliberately built to create the best possible padel experience.

You’ll find the courts are well-lit, fully ventilated, and carefully laid out to give you enough breathing room around the cage.

We could’ve crammed a couple of courts into a warehouse or tagged them onto a leisure centre, but that’s not what we wanted. We wanted to put together somewhere that felt right for padel.

Can Non-Members Play Padel at The Court?

There’s one thing worth knowing: you don’t need to be a member to have a game at The Court.

The general public can grab a court through Playtomic and come along for a match. Court hire sits at £28 to £40 per hour depending on the time slot, and that covers the four players, which works out at less than a tenner each for an hour of play.

If you’re planning to come along regularly, membership makes it more affordable and more straightforward.

Padel Tennis Court Walls

How to Book a Padel Court on Playtomic

You can reserve via the Playtomic app or website, the same system used by padel clubs all over Europe.

You select a court and a time slot, pay online, and that’s it, you’re sorted. The whole process takes roughly a minute.

Go to our Playtomic booking page (https://playtomic.com/clubs/the-court-glasgow) or get the Playtomic app.

Pick a date and time that suits you (we’re open 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 9pm on Sundays). Confirm your booking and settle up online. Come along, check in, and start playing. Should you need to borrow padel rackets or balls, just let us know when you turn up and we’ll have you kitted out from the pro shop in no time.

Beginner Padel in Thornliebank

“Padel Thornliebank” gets searched a lot. Most folk typing it in have never had a game.

That’s you? Great news. Padel is one of the friendliest racket sports to begin having fun with fast.

Because you serve underarm, there’s no tricky overhead serving mechanic to master before you can get a rally under way! Because the court is smaller than a tennis court, you won’t need to dash into back corners, and the glass walls keep the ball in play rather than sailing off into the distance.

Padel Racket being used in a game.

All of that means more time actually playing the ball and less time sprinting after it.

There’s no need to bring your own stuff. Padel rackets and balls are ready to pick up. Turn up in sports shoes and sports clothes and you’ll be on court within minutes.

Simply hop online, select a time, and round up three pals along (padel is a doubles game, so you need four players). If you’re anxious about feeling like a complete beginner, don’t worry!

Padel is geared to be enjoyable from the very beginning, and most players find themselves laughing and feeling competitive within their first few matches.

The glass walls throw up unexpected bounces that catch everyone out, even players who’ve been playing for weeks. If you’re searching for a place to play padel in Glasgow where you won’t feel out of your depth the first time you set foot on the court, look no further!

Padel Coaching and Social Sessions for Thornliebank Residents

If you would like a proper intro to padel rather than just working it out as you go, our skilled coaches run sessions for every ability levels. Starting from scratch, you’ll be walked through the basic shots (forehand, backhand, volley, and the all-important lob), along with court positioning and the fundamentals.

It’s a far faster route to actually having fun in your matches, because learning where to stand and when to push up to the net makes a big difference in padel!

Already got the basics sorted and ready to take your game further? There are sessions built on more advanced shots too!

Work on the bandeja (a controlled overhead shot that keeps you at the net) and the vibora (a more aggressive version with spin), and you’ll begin to understand what separates casual players from people who really know the game. We also run social sessions where you can come along on your own and get paired with local players.

The Court Team

It’s one of the best ways to connect with new faces and get regular sessions going without needing to pull together a group of four every time. Plenty of our members from Thornliebank first rocked up to a social session on their own and now regularly have a game two or three times a week with players they met on court.

The Full Venue Experience

This is likely the thing that sets The Court apart from other padel venues near Thornliebank.

This isn’t a unit with courts crammed in. Fully serviced restaurant and bar on site. Grab food and drinks before or after your session. No need to head anywhere else.

Chatting During Pickleball Game

It turns an hour of padel into a full evening out, and that’s just how we built it!

There’s a Pilates studio on site alongside the courts. Padel delivers the cardio and agility side, while Pilates develops the core strength and flexibility that help you move better on court and bounce back sooner.

Plenty of our members do both in the one visit. We also have a pro shop on site, so if you get hooked (which almost always does happen) you can buy your own racket without needing to buy online and hope if it’ll feel right.

Our team can walk you through what works for your level and play style.

Private events are another big part of what we do here! If you’re looking for a team-building event, a birthday, or just a fresh idea for a night out with colleagues, padel’s dead easy to put together around a group because the rules are straightforward and the matches are snappy.

Factor in the restaurant and bar, and you’ve got the entire evening wrapped up in one venue.

A Padel Club With a Family Feel in Glasgow’s Southside

The Court doesn’t come across like a corporate gym. It’s not a hire-a-court-and-leave type of place by any stretch.

The padel community at The Court has grown naturally, fed by the regulars who come in often, the social sessions that keep bringing new faces together, and the restaurant and bar that give everyone a incentive to hang around long after the last point.

Padel devotees who’ve been playing for years sit alongside with newcomers who only started last month, and that’s the feel we wanted to create from day one.

We run a regular league for members who enjoy a touch of structure and good-natured competition, and we host tournaments throughout the year that bring together players from across Glasgow and beyond.

Competition is part of it, but it’s nowhere near the whole picture.

Padel is a social sport at its core, and some of the most memorable nights at the club are the ones where nobody’s keeping score and the restaurant is full with faces who came for a match and stayed for the dinner.

If you’re looking for a padel club in Glasgow that seems like somewhere you really fit in, come and experience the community for yourself.

We believe you’ll want to stick around.

Comparing Padel and Other Sports in Thornliebank

If you’re coming from tennis, the number one adjustment is the walls.

When that ball bounces off the glass and stays in play, it alters your entire approach about how you approach shot selection.

You can’t just hit winners into the corners the way you would on a tennis court, because your opponent can still take the ball off the back wall!

Power takes a back seat to patience and placement, which is why tennis players regularly find padel both refreshing and unexpectedly tricky at first.

Squash players usually find the transition a shade more natural, because walls are already an accepted part of their game.

Net as opposed to a shared wall. Open court above you as opposed to four walls. Glass bounces differently to squash court walls. Those are the big differences.

Squash players generally adapt pretty sharpish though, particularly to the volleying up at the net!

If you’ve never played a racket sport before, padel is honestly the ideal sport to start with.

Padel is more forgiving than tennis, more social than squash (because it’s always doubles), and less physically demanding than five-a-side footy, all while still giving you a proper workout.

You’ll get through somewhere between 400 and 700 calories in an hour of padel depending on intensity, and it’s far kinder on your knees than running on concrete.

Every element about this place was built around racket sports, from the courts to the coaching programme to the bar and restaurant.
