Underhand Padel Tennis Serve

About Padel

Padel is a racket sport that fuses elements of tennis and squash, and it’s played on an enclosed court that’s about three-quarters the size of a typical tennis court.

Glass walls and metal fencing enclose the court, and when the ball comes off those walls mid-rally, it produces angles and shots that tennis simply can’t replicate.

You serve underarm, it’s always played as doubles, and the games are snappy but unexpectedly straightforward to follow. Folk regularly call it the best of tennis and squash rolled into one, and honestly, that’s a fairly fair summary.

Scoring runs the same as tennis (15, 30, 40, game), with one notable difference: at deuce, padel uses a golden point instead of advantage. One rally decides the entire game, and that keeps games moving and makes those tense games seriously gripping!

The racket is solid, not strung, and that single difference means you don’t need the swing mechanics that makes tennis so punishing for newcomers.

Half an hour on court and most newcomers have the basics figured out. This fast learning curve is a huge part of why padel is now one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, with over 35 million padel players across 150 countries according to the FIP World Padel Report 2025. It’s the fastest-growing racket sport in the UK as well, and padel in Glasgow has been spearheading that charge in Scotland.

Kings Park’s Nearest Padel Courts

We’ve got four indoor panoramic padel courts right here at The Court, all housed inside our 33,000 sq ft building on Glasgow’s south side!

Full-sized courts. 20m x 10m. Glass back walls, metal cage surrounds. Same grade as professional tournaments. Because we’re fully indoors, you can be on court whenever you like, without checking the forecast!

Kings Park’s not exactly known for wall-to-wall sunshine, so being able to have a game all year round? That makes a massive difference! Outdoor courts dotted around the city are good when the weather’s decent, but that’s a gamble when you don’t have to?

Courts are open from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 9pm on Sundays, so there’s bags of flexibility to fit a game around your life! This building wasn’t an afterthought; it was carefully fitted to offer the ideal padel experience.

Courts are well-lit, thoroughly ventilated, and spaced out to give you plenty of room around the cage.

We wanted to put together somewhere that felt right for padel, not cram a pair of courts into whatever area was left over in a warehouse or leisure centre.

Padel for Newcomers in Kings Park

If you’ve just Googled “padel Kings Park,” chances are you’ve never actually had a game!

That’s you? Brilliant news. Padel is one of the friendliest racket sports to start getting into quickly.

The serve is underarm, which means there’s no overhand serving action to figure out before you can even get a rally started. The court’s smaller than a tennis court as well, so you’re not dashing into back corners, and the glass walls keep the ball in play instead of firing off into the distance.

Padel Racket being used in a game.

Stack it all together and you get more time actually hitting the ball and way less time dashing after it.

And here’s another win: you don’t need to pack any equipment. We’ve got rackets and balls available to rent at the venue, so you can turn up in gym shoes and sports clothes and be on court within no time.

Jump online. Select a time. Grab three pals. Padel is doubles, so you require four people. If the thought of seeming like a complete beginner is holding you back, let go of that worry today.

The whole padel experience is set up around having a good time, and most players are smiling and competitive within their first few games.

The glass walls create unexpected bounces that catch everyone out, even folk who’ve been playing for weeks. After a venue to play padel in Glasgow where you won’t feel out of your depth on day one? This is it.

Kings Park Padel Coaching and Social Sessions

If you’d prefer have a proper intro to padel rather than just figuring it out as you go, our qualified coaches run sessions for different ability levels. Beginners get walked through the basic shots (forehand, backhand, volley, and the all-important lob), court positioning, and the fundamentals.

It’s a more direct route to actually having fun in your matches, because knowing where to position yourself and when to move to the net makes a enormous difference in padel.

For players who’ve nailed the basics and are looking to sharpen further, there are sessions that concentrate on more advanced shots.

The bandeja, a controlled overhead that keeps you at the net, and the vibora, a more aggressive version with spin. Those two divide casual players from people who really grasp the game. If you can’t always have a group of four available, our social sessions let you come along on your own and get matched with local players.

The Court Team

Great way to get to know folk. Regular games without the headache of arranging four players every time. Loads of our members from Kings Park started by coming along to a social session on their own and now have a game two or three times a week with folk they met on court.

More Going On Than Padel Courts

This is almost very likely where The Court looks most different from other padel venues near Kings Park.

We’re definitely not just a unit with courts crammed in! The club has a fully serviced restaurant and bar, so you can grab food and drinks before or after your game without having to head somewhere else.

Chatting During Pickleball Game

The goal was to turn an hour of padel into a complete evening out, and that’s precisely how we designed the club.

And alongside the courts there’s the Pilates studio, based on site. Padel’s brilliant for cardio and agility, and Pilates strengthens the core strength and flexibility that enable you play better on court and bounce back sooner!

A few of our members pair both in the a single visit. And then there’s the pro shop, waiting for when you get hooked (which almost always does happen), so you can buy your own racket without gambling on an online purchase and hoping it feels right.

Our team can talk you through exactly what suits your level and play style!

Private events are another popular side of what we run here! If you’re looking for a team-building day, a birthday, or just something new for a night out with colleagues, padel’s easy to set up around a group because the rules are straightforward and the matches are snappy.

With the bar and restaurant right there, you’ve got the entire evening covered in one spot.

A Proper Padel Community in Glasgow’s Southside

The Court doesn’t feel like a corporate gym. It’s not a hire-a-court-and-leave type of place either.

The padel community at The Court has developed naturally, fuelled by the players who come in regularly, the social sessions that keep bringing new faces together, and the restaurant and bar that give everyone a reason to stay long after the last point.

Folk who’ve been playing padel for years rub shoulders with people who only started last month, and that’s just the energy we wanted to create from day one!

We run a regular league for members who fancy a touch of structure and good-natured competition, and we host tournaments throughout the year that attract players from across Glasgow and beyond.

Mind you, it’s not just about winning.

Padel’s a social sport at its core, and some of the best nights at the club are the ones where nobody’s keeping score and the restaurant is packed with faces who came for a match and stayed for the dinner!

If you’re on the hunt for a padel club in Glasgow that feels like somewhere you genuinely want to be, come and check out the community for yourself.

And genuinely, we reckon once you’ve experienced it, you’ll want to sign up.

Padel Compared to Other Sports in Kings Park

If you’re coming from tennis, the biggest adjustment is the walls.

When that ball ricochets off the glass and stays in play, it transforms your entire approach about how you think about shot selection.

No blasting winners into corners. Your opponent plays the ball off the back wall.

Padel favours patience and placement over raw power, which is why a good number of tennis players find it enjoyable but also surprisingly tricky at first.

Squash player? The transition’s a touch more natural. You already appreciate walls are part of the game.

Instead of hitting into the same wall, you’re hitting across a net. The court is open above you as opposed to closed off on all sides. And the ball bounces differently off glass than it does off a squash court wall.

Squash players usually adapt pretty sharpish though, above all to the volleying at the net.

If you’ve never played a racket sport at all, padel is honestly the perfect place to start with!

It’s more forgiving than tennis, more social than squash (because it’s always doubles), and less physically punishing than five-a-side footy while still giving you a real workout.

An hour of padel burns around 400 to 700 calories depending on how hard you go, and it won’t destroy your knees the way running on concrete does.

Kings Park’s Padel Community is Growing

The padel scene in Kings Park has come a remarkably long way in a relatively short time.

Just a few years ago, there was almost nowhere to have a game!

What makes The Court different is that we’re a dedicated padel club, not an add-on stuck onto a golf range or a gym chain.

Every element about this place was built around racket sports, from the courts to the coaching programme to the restaurant and bar.

Tried padel elsewhere in Kings Park? After a club that takes the sport properly but keeps it fun and welcoming? We’d be delighted to have you.
