Underhand Padel Tennis Serve

What is Padel?

Padel’s a racket sport that mixes tennis and squash, and it’s played on an enclosed court that’s roughly three-quarters the size of a typical tennis court.

The court is bordered by glass walls and metal fencing, and the ball can ricochet off those walls mid-rally, which opens up angles and shots you’d never see in tennis.

You serve underarm, it’s always played as doubles, and the rallies are snappy but unexpectedly simple to follow. If a mate’s told you it’s the best of tennis and squash rolled into one, they’re right.

Scoring follows tennis (15, 30, 40, game), but there’s a cool twist: at deuce, padel uses a golden point in place of advantage! One rally settles it, which keeps games ticking along and adds a bit of pressure that makes the close games genuinely exciting.

The racket’s solid rather than strung, which means you don’t need the same swing that makes tennis so punishing for beginners!

Half an hour on court and most newcomers have the basics covered. That fast learning curve is a big reason padel is now one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, with over 35 million players in 150 countries according to the FIP World Padel Report 2025. Across the UK, padel is the fastest-growing racket sport out there, and padel in Glasgow has been leading that movement north of the border.

The Court’s Padel Courts Near Duntocher

We’ve got four indoor panoramic padel courts right here at The Court, all housed inside our 33,000 sq ft venue on Glasgow’s south side!

The courts are full-sized (20m x 10m) with glass back walls and metal cage enclosures, fitted to the same grade you’d find at professional tournaments. Fully indoors. Play rain or shine.

Duntocher isn’t exactly renowned for wall-to-wall sunshine, so being able to have a game year-round makes a real difference. There are outdoor courts dotted around the city that are great when the weather cooperates, but coming here means you don’t need to take that risk.

Our courts are open from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 9pm on Sundays, so there’s lots of flexibility to fit a session around work or family life. The facility itself was purposely designed to provide the finest padel experience.

The lighting is spot on, the ventilation is first-rate, and there’s real room around each cage.

We didn’t want to wedge courts into whatever space was going in a warehouse or leisure centre. We wanted to design somewhere that truly felt right for padel!

Padel for Newcomers in Duntocher

“Padel Duntocher” brought you here, and if you’ve never actually tried it in your life, you’re in great company.

If that’s your story, here’s the part that counts: padel is one of the most accessible racket sports to begin getting into from your very first rally.

You serve underarm, so there’s no tough overhead serving technique to master before you can get a rally going. Smaller court. No running into back corners. Glass walls keep the ball in play rather than sailing off into the distance.

Padel Racket being used in a game.

All of that means more time actually connecting with the ball and less time sprinting after it.

You don’t even need to bring any kit with you! We keep padel rackets and balls in stock for borrowing at the venue, so simply turn up in gym shoes and sports clothes and you’ll be on court within minutes.

Just hop online, grab a time, and gather three pals along (padel is a doubles sport, so you’ll need four players in all)! If you’re worried about feeling like a complete beginner, honestly don’t be!

The whole padel experience is geared around having a good time, and most newcomers are smiling and into it within their first few rallies.

Glass walls throw up wild bounces. They catch everybody out, even players who’ve been at it for weeks. If you’re searching for a place to play padel in Glasgow where you won’t feel out of your depth the first time you step onto the court, look no further!

Coaching and Social Padel for Duntocher

For those who’d like a structured grounding to padel rather than muddling it out on your own, our skilled coaches run sessions for all ability levels. Beginners get walked through all the basics: forehand, backhand, volley, the all-important lob, court positioning, and the fundamentals!

Knowing where to stand and when to move to the net makes a enormous difference in padel, and coaching is the most direct way to build that understanding.

Already got the basics nailed and ready to lift your game further? There are sessions centred on more technical shots too!

Learn the bandeja (a controlled overhead shot that keeps you at the net) and the vibora (a more aggressive version with spin), and you’ll begin to grasp what separates casual players from people who really grasp the game. If you don’t have a group of four to hand, our social sessions let you rock up on your own and get paired with nearby players.

The Court Team

If organising four players every time feels like hard work, social sessions are a superb way to meet folk and get regular sessions set up. A fair few of our members from Duntocher began by showing up to a social session on their own and now have a game two or three times a week with people they met on court!

There’s More Than Padel Courts

This is where The Court genuinely sets itself apart from other padel facilities near Duntocher.

The Court isn’t just a unit with courts crammed in. A fully serviced restaurant and bar sits just inside the club, so you can have a bite and a drink before or after your session without having to drive somewhere else.

Chatting During Pickleball Game

What begins as an hour of padel easily turns into an evening out, and that’s exactly how we built it.

On top of that, there’s a Pilates studio on site. Padel develops your cardio and agility, while Pilates works the core {strength} and flexibility that enable you play better on court and bounce back more quickly.

It’s worth knowing that a good number of our members combine both in the same visit. Then there’s the pro shop, waiting for when you get hooked (which often does happen), so you can buy your own racket without gambling on an online order and hoping it works out right.

Our staff know their rackets, and they’ll walk you through what works for your level and playing style.

Private events are another part of what we run. Padel makes a brilliant team-building event, birthday celebration, or just a fresh idea for a night out with pals, because the rules are simple, the games are snappy, and it’s easy to organise around any group.

Factor in the bar and restaurant and that’s the entire evening taken care of under one roof.

The Court: A Family Padel Club in Glasgow’s Southside

One thing visitors notice early on about The Court is it doesn’t seem like a corporate gym or a book-and-leave kind of place.

There’s a true padel community here, and it’s formed naturally from the players who play week in week out, the social sessions that bring new faces together, and the fact that the restaurant and bar give everyone a incentive to hang around after the last point.

The vibe we wanted from day one was precisely this: padel fans who’ve been playing for years mingling with newcomers who only started last month.

We run a regular league for members who like a bit of structure and friendly competition, and we host tournaments throughout the year that pull together players from across Glasgow and beyond!

But it’s not entirely about winning at The Court.

At its core, padel is a social sport, and some of the most memorable nights at the club are the ones where nobody’s keeping score and the restaurant is buzzing with faces who came for a session and stayed for the food.

Finding a padel club in Glasgow that feels like somewhere you really fit in isn’t exactly easy, but come and see what the community is like here and we think you’ll notice the difference.

Choosing Between Padel and Other Sports in Duntocher

Coming from tennis? The main change is probably the walls!

In padel, the ball coming off the glass alters everything about how you consider shot selection.

You can’t just smash winners into the corners the way you would on a tennis court, because your opponent can return the ball off the back wall.

Padel values patience and placement over raw power, and that’s why a lot of tennis players find it a welcome change but also unexpectedly tricky to get used to.

Squash players often find the changeover a little more natural, because walls are already an accepted part of your game.

The key differences are that you’re hitting across a net as opposed to into the same wall, the court is open above you rather than closed off on all sides, and the ball bounces differently off glass than off a squash court wall!

Typically, squash players adapt to padel without much trouble, above all with the volleying at the net.

If you’ve never played any racket sport before, padel is honestly the smartest one to begin with.

It’s more forgiving than tennis, more social than squash (always doubles), and less physically gruelling than five-a-side footy, but you still get a real workout!

400 to 700 calories per hour, depending on how hard you push. And your knees won’t take a beating like they do on concrete.

Padel in Duntocher: Join a Growing Community

Not long ago, Duntocher’s padel scene hardly existed. Now it’s come a remarkably long way.

A few years back, there was virtually nowhere to have a game.

A few of spots offer padel as a bolt-on to a golf range or gym chain, but The Court is different: we’re a dedicated padel club, from top to bottom.

Every detail about this place was built around racket sports, from the courts to the coaching programme to the restaurant and bar.

Played padel elsewhere in Duntocher? Want a club that takes the sport seriously but keeps it fun and welcoming? We’d really love to have you.
